It was my honor to attend the memorial service for a great friend of The Ventures, Richard Delvy. For anyone who knows anything about instrumental/surf rock music from the 1960's, his name will not be unknown - he was the original drummer on "Mr. Moto" recorded with the Belairs. He then moved on to form The Challengers, and carved out a very successful career in music producing and music publishing. His company controls many classic surf songs, including the iconic "Wipeout". There were dozens of music industry figures at the service and reception and it was wonderful to see just what a well-loved and respected man he was, as evidenced by the glowing tributes from his friend, family and business associates. Personally, I knew I could always count on his help whenever I had a question regarding music publishing - he was my "go to" guy. He will be missed by all who knew him. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Bonnie, and their family.
